FossCon'24 Code of Conduct

In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as organizers, speakers, attendees, and volunteers pledge to make participation in our conference a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Our Standards

Examples of behavior that contributes to creating a positive environment include:

• Using welcoming and inclusive language
• Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
• Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
• Focusing on what is best for the community
• Showing empathy towards other community members

Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:

• The use of sexualized language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or advances
• Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
• Public or private harassment
• Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or electronic address, without explicit permission
• Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting
• Disrupting talks or other events
• Inappropriate physical contact without consent
• Intimidation or bullying (online or in-person)

Conference Talks and Language

As FossCon'24 is a physical conference with live talks, we have additional guidelines for speakers and attendees:

• Be mindful of your language. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you.
• Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are not appropriate for conference talks.
• If a participant engages in behavior that violates this code of conduct, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

Our Responsibilities

Conference organizers are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any instances of unacceptable behavior.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all conference venues and events, including talks, workshops, parties, and online forums associated with FossCon'24. It also applies when an individual is representing the conference or its community in public spaces. Examples of representing the conference include using an official conference e-mail address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event.

Enforcement

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported by contacting the conference team at fosscon24@gmail.com. All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.

All conference staff are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident. During the physical conference, staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference.

Addressing Grievances

If you feel you have been falsely or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct, you should notify the conference organizers with a concise description of your grievance. Your grievance will be handled in accordance with our existing governing policies.

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 1.4, and includes additional provisions specific to FossCon'24.
